BETWEEN LINES

I had to pinch myself when Sarah Beth asked if I’d like to help with animation on her film, Between Lines. It was a wonderful chance to grow and explore new techniques with the oversight and feedback of some of the folks I admire most in the industry.

I worked on animation and compositing on a few sections below, with character animation by Camille Vincent and fish animation by Collin Leix.

Behind The Scenes

A lot of the fun of working on passion projects is that you have the time to explore new techniques. The styleframe I received from Sarah Beth had water caustics, which I’d never animated before. I tried a few different methods, mostly using noise layers, until I settled on this technique. By drawing the first pass of caustics and tweaking that, I was able to get the balance of big and small holes I was looking for.
